Gorillaz win John Peel Innovation Award at NME Shockwaves.
LONDON, UK [Wednesday Mar.1.2006] /Mix103FM.com/ -- The artistic vision of the Gorillaz and their creators, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, was recognized earlier this month at the 2006 ShockWaves NME Awards.
During the annual awards show -- held last week in London by UK music magazine NME -- the Gorillaz won the John Peel Award For Musical Innovation. Given in memory of the legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel, the award celebrates artists who are breaking new ground through music.
Former Happy Mondays singer and Gorillaz collaborator Shaun Ryder accepted the Innovation Award on the group's behalf. Ryder can be heard singing on the Gorillaz hit single "Dare," off the band's latest album "Demon Days."
