Franz Ferdinand, Kanye West, Green Day among nominees.

Franz Ferdinand
LONDON, UK  [Wednesday Jan.25.2006]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- UK music magazine NME has announced the nominees for its 2006 Awards, and Oasis, the Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Green Day and Kanye West are among this year's contenders.

Legendary Brit-pop band Oasis leads the way with nine nominations including Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album for "Don't Believe The Truth," Best Website, Best Video, and Best Track for "The Importance Of Being Idle." Oasis singer Liam Gallagher is also up for Hero of the Year, Best Dressed, and Sexiest Man.

The Kaiser Chiefs follow Oasis with seven nominations, while Franz Ferdinand scored six nods that include Best British Band, Best Live Act, Best Album, Best Video, and Best Track for "Do You Want To." Franz Ferdinand's always dapper singer, Alex Kapranos, also grabbed a nomination for Best Dressed.

Representing the USA, Green Day earned nods for Best International Band, Best Live Band and Best DVD. Other Best International Band nominees include Foo Fighters, The Killers, The Strokes and Arcade Fire.

Kanye West is the only American nominated in the Best Solo Artist category. To win, West needs to beat British acts Antony And The Johnsons, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown and Graham Coxon.

Competing for the Sexiest Woman award are Madonna and The White Stripes' Meg White.

James Blunt and Coldplay are up for some awards, but probably not any they'd like to win. Blunt's album "Back To Bedlam" is nominated for "Worst Album," while Coldplay earned a nod for "Worst Band." Coldplay singer Chris Martin is also up for "Worst Dressed," as is White Stripes' frontman Jack White and Justin Hawkins from The Darkness.

The winners of the ShockWaves NME Awards will be decided through online voting by the public at www.nme.com/awards. The winners will be announced during a ceremony on February 23rd in the United Kingdom.
