NEW YORK, NY  [Tuesday Dec.20.2005]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Ashlee Simpson's collapse in Japan last Friday was due to exhaustion, reports MTV.com.

Simpson was headlining MTV Japan's Cool Christmas show when she exited the stage during her second song. Simpson later returned to the stage to apologize to the audience and explain that she was losing her voice.

Contrary to earlier reports, Simpson did not collapse in the elevator at the event or at MTV Japan's offices. The singer had already left the venue before collapsing. She returned to her hotel before being taken to a Tokyo hospital around midnight and was released early Saturday morning.

Simpson is now back in the United States and recuperating with her family.
