Gorillaz Take Over Manchester
Gorillaz play Demon Days live in Manchester, UK.

by Krista Desens

Gorillaz
MANCHESTER, UK  [Thursday Nov.3.2005]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- The Gorillaz are taking over Manchester, England for the next several days.

The cartoon band began a five-night residency on November 1st at the Manchester Opera House to perform their second album "Demon Days" in its entirety. Among the guests who joined the Gorillaz onstage at Tuesday's opening night were De La Soul, Ike Turner, Martina Topley Bird, Neneh Cherry, Rotts Manuva and Shaun Ryder, reports NME.com.

The concert was a mixture of 3-D animation and live performances, and even included life-size puppets of 2-D and Murdoc, who sat in a theatre box and caused mischief -- including throwing popcorn at the audience below -- throughout the show.

Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn played piano and led the human form of the band, who played for much of the set behind a giant screen where the various animations were projected.

The concerts will continue through Saturday, November 5th and are part of the Manchester International Festival.
