Katrina Can't Keep Artists From VMAs
Hurricane causes artists to get creative with travel plans.

The Game
MIAMI, FL.  [Monday Aug.29.2005]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Hurricane Katrina didn't stop the stars from coming to Miami this weekend for MTV's Video Music Awards.

The 100 mph winds did however shut down Miami International Airport, forcing artists to get more creative with their travel plans.

In an interview with MTV, The Game talked about his journey to get to the 2005 VMAs. "I definitely don't play with Mother Nature," said the rapper, who came up with "a strategic plan to fly into Orlando" and then got a tour bus to drive him to Miami. "I don't fly into the eye of the storm," Game said.

Fall Out Boy's Peter Wentz, who says he's "scared to death of flying," also spoke to MTV about his "shakey" flight to Miami. He explained, "We got up in the air and the captain comes on right at the beginning when it's really shakey and says, 'This is about as smooth as we're gonna get today, so I think I'm gonna keep the seatbelt sign on.'"

Green Day avoided flying into Miami because the group was already in the city this week to play a show on its "American Idiot" tour. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, "We sat and watched the whole thing as all hell broke loose."

"It was pretty intense," Green Day's Mike Dirnt agreed. "I don't suggest it any time soon."

Stay tuned for a recap of the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards...
