Coldplay Up For Mercury Music Prize
Coldplay, Bloc Party compete for UK's Mercury Music Prize.

Coldplay
LONDON, UK  [Wednesday Jul.20.2005]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Is three times the charm for Coldplay?

Yesterday (July 19), Coldplay's album "X&Y" was nominated for the UK's prestigious Mercury Prize, which is voted on by music industry experts, journalists and artists. It's the third time the "Speed of Sound" band has been nominated.

Coldplay was previously up for the award for the 2000 release, "Parachutes," and again for 2003's "A Rush of Blood to the Head," but lost out to Badly Drawn Boy and Dizzee Rascal.

To win the Mercury Prize, Coldplay will need to beat Bloc Party, who's nominated for its first album "Silent Alarm," and the Kaiser Chiefs, who also received a nod for their debut disc, "Employment." Other contenders include Hard-Fi, MIA, The Magic Numbers, The Go! Team, Antony and the Johnsons, KT Tunstall, Maximo Park, Seth Lakeman, and Polar Bear.

The Mercury Prize winner will be announced in London on September 6.

Last year, Franz Ferdinand won the Mercury Prize for their self-titled debut, beating out Joss Stone, Keane and Snow Patrol.
