Jack Johnson Plays Kokua Festival
Johnson joined by G. Love, Jackson Browne at annual benefit.

Jack Johnson
HONOLULU, HI  [Tuesday Apr.19.2005]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Hawaiian-born Jack Johnson is passionate about the environment.

That's why for the second year in a row, the singer-surfer hosted the Kokua Festival -- a benefit event that brings together environmental organizations, eco-friendly businesses, musicians, artists, teachers, and community leaders to promote environmental awareness in Hawaii.

The Kokua Festival took place on April 13 and 16 in Kahului and Honolulu and benefited the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which supports education programs in Hawaii. Johnson shared the stage with special guests G. Love and Special Sauce, Jackson Browne, Ozomatli and other top talent from Hawaii.

About the special concert, Johnson tells RollingStone.com, "It's a benefit, and we raise money to support environmental education in the public schools here." He explains, "We sponsor field trips and get kids out of the classroom to get inspired in the real world. Like someone on Cribs brags about having five cars, little kids come up to me and brag about how they recycle at home, and that's amazingly rewarding to me."

Johnson adds, "I've got this song called 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. It's a hit on the elementary school circuit."
