Franz Ferdinand, Keane to play for Teenage Cancer Trust.
LONDON, UK [Wednesday Mar.2.2005] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Franz Ferdinand and Keane have signed on to play the UK's annual Teenage Cancer Trust gigs in early April at London's Royal Albert Hall. NME.com reports that each band will headline a show during the week-long fundraising event that also includes concerts by Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant with West London band Rooster and UB40, Eric Clapton and The Who's Roger Daltrey and guests. Daltrey is producing the shows as well.
In a statement, Daltrey said, "Every year we try to make these concerts a uniquely amazing experience for the audiences and for the artists who give up their time and energy for the Trust. But the true purpose of these shows is to raise awareness of this very special charity which makes a real difference to thousands of teenagers across the UK."
He added, "We all know that without teenagers, without their energy and their passion for music, we wouldn't have rock and roll as we know it. I'm really looking forward to seeing Franz Ferdinand, one of the most exciting live bands in the country."
Franz Ferdinand's show takes place April 5 and also features the Kaiser Chiefs and Graham Coxon. Keane performs on April 7.
