Stefani's dress worn for Tragic Kingdom cover stolen.
FULLERTON, CA [Friday Jan.14.2005] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Someone's stolen Gwen Stefani's dress.
The dress Stefani wears on the cover of No Doubt's breakthrough album, "Tragic Kingdom," was stolen on Tuesday, January 11, from the Fullerton Museum Center in Orange County, California. The red vinyl dress was the central item on display in the exhibit, "The Orange Groove: Orange County's Rock n' Roll History." Crooks took the dress sometime between 2:30 and 3:30 pm PT, said the band's label, Interscope Records.
MTV reports that the dress was on a mannequin placed on a stage about three-and-a-half feet high. The stage was surrounded by plexiglass. The exhibit's curator, Jim Washburn, told MTV, "Someone must have given this some thought to vault it during daylight business hours. We're trying to figure out how this was accomplished. It's awfully selfish...to think that your interest in the band matters more than anyone else who would want to see it."
Stefani's dress seems to be the only item stolen from the exhibit. Other items on display include Stefani's Super Bowl outfit, No Doubt photos, instruments, and the band's 2003 Grammy for "Underneath It All." Also included in the show are guitars from Offspring and Social Distortion.
In a statement, Interscope Records said, "Our foremost priority in this matter is the safe return of the dress, as it means a lot to the band." The label also asked that anyone with information on the dress call the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-5336 or return the dress to the Fullerton Museum Center's after-hours drop-off box. "No questions asked."
