U2, The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Marley, Madonna inducted.
LONDON, UK [Monday Nov.15.2004] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Last Thursday, November 11, U2 was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame as a founding member, alongside The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Marley and Madonna. The event marked the opening of the UK Music Hall of Fame. Five other acts were also inducted at the ceremony based on a weekly poll conducted by UK television station Channel 4. Those inductees include Cliff Richard, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Michael Jackson and Robbie Williams.
Bono was at the London ceremony to accept the award on U2's behalf. Bono joked to London radio station Xfm, "Inducted! It sounds like a very painful operation."
The U2 frontman added, "I don't really want to be inducted into the UK Hall Of Fame, I don't want to be in any Hall of Fame, until we're retired or dead. We -- U2 -- are a cutting edge, contemporary, more-relevant-now-than-we've-ever-been, kind of a band. But I'm here because the people who run it I respect and care for, and its good to be alongside Elvis and Bob Marley, there's a lot of cool people out there. It's a really great night."
