West, Chester Bennington make cameos in new Hoobastank clip.
LOS ANGELES, CA [Monday Jul.26.2004] /Mix103FM.com/ -- What if Kanye West or Linkin Park's Chester Bennington fronted Hoobastank instead of Doug Robb? Those possibilities are explored in one of two new videos for the Hoobastank song, "Same Direction."
Hoobastank made two different videos for the single, and both clips feature some interesting cameos. One version centers around a fictional former fifth Hoobastank member named Ted. In that video, based on a fan's treatment, be on the lookout for "I Love Rock N' Roll" singer Joan Jett.
The other "Same Direction" video is a sequel to the band's "The Reason" clip. In that version, Hoobastank frontman Doug Robb auditions for the band. But he's up against some stiff competition including Kanye West, Good Charlotte's Benji Madden and Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. Guitarist Dan Estrin told MTV, "I think we got three vocalists for this thing that are like the biggest guys in their genre of music."
"Kanye came in here ... and he grabbed the mic and was rocking out. It was awesome," said Estrin. "I give him credit 'cause he learned the lyrics in like five minutes. He listened to the song and was singing it out loud. ... It was the coolest thing I've ever seen."
