Jet Get Bored
A group of musicians form Jet satirical tribute band.

by Krista Desens

Jet
SPRINGFIELD, MO  [Friday May.7.2004]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- It's been said by many people, many times now, that Jet is imitating their influences -- the Beatles, Iggy Pop, Lynrd Skynrd, ACDC, to name a few -- a little too much. The band doesn't seem phased by this criticism, however. Nic Cester even dryly remarked in an interview with The Age, "You hate a band that wears its influences on its sleeve." Add to the rip-off ruckus the band's relatively quick rise to stardom, and they become an easy target.

Case in point: A group of local Melbourne musicians have formed a satirical tribute band called "Get Bored: The Australian Jet Experience." Get Bored's press release reads, "It's a short way to the top, if you've got the right contacts." The "tribute" band performs the songs that inspired Jet's hits. Instead of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," Get Bored plays Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life."

Jet Guitarist Cameron Muncey isn't too bothered by the satire. "That's a pretty pathetic backlash if that's the backlash," he says. Bassist Mark Wilson is more philosophical. "The amount of people coming to the shows outweigh all that," he says. "There's always going to be people who don't like you, and that's good. I'd hate to be one of those bands people are indifferent to."
