Outkast Protest At MN TV Affiliate.
Indians still mad about "Hey Ya!"

by Ellen Sawyer

Outkast
DETROIT, MI  [Tuesday Apr.6.2004]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Protesters still angry about Outkast's performance of "Hey Ya!" at this year's Grammy's stormed a Minneapolis CBS affiliate last Thursday and demanded an apology. Many of the protesters were from Honor Nation, which is an American Indian activist group. According to member Jake Al Reum, "They [Outkast] knew this was going to anger Indian people. They had to have known it." Al Reum refers to the traditional Indian grab worn by Andre and Big Boi during their performance.

Approximately 50 protesters congregated outside WCCO-TV, and eventually attempted to force their way into the building's atrium, at which point a station security guard was injured and one person was arrested. A WCCO-TV spokeswoman was reportedly willing to meet with the protesters two weeks prior to the incident, but they didn't take her up on it.
