All-stars vs. rockers raises money for kids.
DETROIT, MI [Monday Apr.5.2004] /Mix103FM.com/ -- The celebrity hockey match between NHL all-stars and Canadian musicians went off as planned in Alberta this weekend, kicking off Juno Award-related festivities in the province. The game, which was organized by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to raise money for musical equipment in Canadian schools, pitted hockey greats of yesteryear against members of Nickelback, Our Lady Peace, and the Barenaked Ladies, among others. Coaching duties were handled by Ottowan folk singer Kathleen Edwards for the musicians, and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger for the all-stars.
The event raised more than $200,000, a large portion of which came from event sponsor MasterCard, as the arena was only half-filled, according to a really rather snide article in the Canadian press.
