Outkast Raises Polaroid Profile
Endorsement puts camera co. back in public eye.

by Ellen Sawyer

Outkast
DETROIT, MI  [Monday Mar.1.2004]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- The Polaroid picture company is happy about being cool again, thanks Outkast's Grammy-award winning song "Hey Ya." The duo's advice to "shake it like a Polaroid picture" equaled instant endorsement for the hip-hop group and instant hip-quotient to the camera maker. Since then, Outkast has rarely been seen without a Polaroid or two on 'em, appearing on the Grammys, Saturday Night Live, and the Vibe Awards with the instant photo machines in hand.

"We certainly have enjoyed the publicity," Polaroid spokesman Skip Colcord said. "We're very thankful for the different brand exposure the song has given us."

However, word up: Polaroid says actually shakin' it isn't a good idea. "Almost everybody does it, thinking that shaking accelerates the development process," a Polaroid spokesman told CNN. "But if you shake it too vigorously you could distort the image. A casual shake typically doesn't affect it."
