LOS ANGELES, CA  [Monday Jul.9.2007]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Live Earth's 24-hour concert extravaganza took place around the world on Saturday July 7th, hoping to bring awareness to the global warming crisis.

Former Vice President Al Gore kicked things off in Sydney's Aussie Stadium, thanking the audience for "being the first to launch this movement." Gore later spoke to the crowd in Tokyo about the climate crisis, appearing as a holographic image.

The Live Earth concerts, which featured acts including Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Chris Cornell, Jack Johnson and many many more, continued throughout the day in Johannesburg, Shanghai, Hamburg and London before moving to Washington DC and New Jersey. The final event took place on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, which was almost cancelled earlier due to lack of security.

Some of the highlights included: Linkin Park's performance in Tokyo - apparently the crowd got so amped that there was a rush to the front of the stadium, temporarily halting the set. Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir and the rest of the Live Earth Johannesburg players. Lenny Kravitz's stage-dive in Rio de Janeiro during "Let Love Rule," and Joss Stone's take on the Rolling Stones' classic "Gimmer Shelter."
