Festival Fans Injured During Storm
Lighting and sound system collapses from wind and rain

by Laura Katz

My Chemical Romance
VENICE, ITALY  [Monday Jun.18.2007]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- NME.com reports that several fans waiting to see My Chemical Romance were injured when a lighting and sound system collapsed.

MCR was about to perform at the Heineken Jammin' Festival in Venice, Italy on Friday June 15th, but strong winds and heavy rain made the equipment unsteady and caused it to fall. Trees were uprooted in the surrounding park and several vehicles were overturned by the heavy winds.

"I've never seen weather like it," one eyewitness said. "My Chemical Romance were due to play but then the sky just went black. There were really strong winds and massive hailstones and everything just got blown away. The sound desk, tops of stages, everything. It was really shocking."

Venice Mayor Massimo Cacciari said that 19 people were admitted to hospital, one with serious fractures.

According to festival organizer Roberto De Luca, there have been no fatalities, but the rest of the event has been canceled due to damage from the storm.

The Killers, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Smashing Pumpkins and more were featured on the festival bill.
