Mary J. Blige To Receive Big Honor From ASCAP
Soul queen to take home the Voice Of Music Award

by Laura Katz

Mary J. Blige
LOS ANGELES, CA  [Wednesday May.16.2007]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- What do Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney have in common?

They've all been recipients of ASCAP's (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Voice of Music Award.

Blige is set as this year's honoree at the 20th Anniversary Rhythm + Soul Music Awards next month in Los Angeles.

ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman said of the 6 times Grammy-winner, "Through all of her struggles, she was determined to find and maintain her own musical voice, and by doing so, she has become one of the most successful R+B/hip-hop writer/performers in the country."

"To many, Mary J. Blige is not only the 'Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,' but also a guiding light. She has paved the way for many others who have followed her path. The Ascap Voice of Music Award is an honour that she richly deserves."
