Akon Says Sorry
Artist makes statement over concert scandal

by Laura Katz

Akon
LOS ANGELES, CA  [Friday May.11.2007]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- R&B star Akon wants the world to know that he is very sorry for pulling that teenage girl on stage and aggressively putting her in various sexual positions.

The incident occurred on April 12th at a concert in Trinidad, and has since sparked such controversy that Verizon has nixed an entire Akon ad campaign, and also pulled sponsorship from the Gwen Stefani/Akon tour.

The artist said in a statement, "I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me on stage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert."

"It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18."
