NASHVILLE, TN  [Tuesday Feb.13.2007]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- The 49th Annual Grammy awards were celebrated last night at Staples Arena in Los Angeles. The Dixie Chicks and Carrie Underwood were the winningest country performers of the evening in both overall and country categories.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD TOOK the overall award for Best New Artist Plus, she showed her power in the Country categories taking Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Jesus Take the Wheel." And the songwriters of "Jesus Take the Wheel" picked up Best Country Song (A Songwriter(s) Award. Brett James, Hillary Lindsey & Gordie Sampson, songwriters )

THE DIXIE CHICKS SCORED 5 BIG GRAMMYS The Dixie Chicks may be absent from country radio but the Grammy voters anointed their latest music with the overall RECORD OF THE YEAR And SONG OF THE YEAR award for "Not Ready to Make Nice." PLUS, they picked up the overall ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR Taking the Long Way. ALSO, Dixie Chicks received the Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal AND, Best Country Album Taking The Long Way.

VINCE GILL PICKS UP A GRAMMY for Best Male Country Vocal Performance "The Reason Why." Vince Gill [MCA Nashville]

BONJOVI AND NETTLES TAKE COUNTRY GRAMMY It was one of the biggest country events of 2006 when John Bonjovi invited Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles to sing with him "Who Says You Can't Go Home," that has now earned them a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. MORE: Best Country Instrumental Performance was "Whiskey Before Breakfast" by BRYAN SUTTON and DOCK WATSON.

And, Best Bluegrass album went to, Instrumentals RICKY SKAGGS AND KENTUCKY THUNDER.
