LOS ANGELES, CA [Friday Oct.20.2006] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Keane is testing out a new technology that may affect the future of the CD.
The label plans to give away free memory sticks containing Keane's new single, "Nothing In My Way." The sticks will allow their fortunate owners to transfer any content (that includes the song, other tracks, videos, and screensavers) to their computer, and then to their mp3 player.
While doubtful that the CD will disappear anytime soon, some believe that the memory stick may become music's next wave as early as next year, and, if that's the case, Keane's label wants to be among the first to get in on the action.
Jon Turner, Island's GM, said, "I do see it as a potential format for the future but I don't think it's going to run down the use of digital services. It's an interesting experiment. I'm keen to see what people make of it."
