MTV VMA Nominees Announced
Shakira, Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley among 2006 nominees.

NEW YORK, NY  [Tuesday Aug.1.2006]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Shakira, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley are among the nominees for this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMA).

The network announced the nominations yesterday (July 31) in New York City, where show will air live from Radio City Music Hall on August 31.

Shakira and the Red Hot Chili Peppers lead the pack with seven nominations each, and both were nominated for Video of the Year. Shakira's "Hips" is also up for Best Female Video, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video and the Viewer's Choice Award, Best Choreography, and Best Art Direction.

Along with Video of the Year, the Chili Peppers' "Dani California" is in the running for Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction.

Other artists hoping to take home the Video of the Year award include Madonna for "Hung Up," Panic! At The Disco for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and Christina Aguilera for "Ain't No Other Man."

Madonna and Panic! At the Disco locked up five nominations each, while Aguilera earned four.

Gnarls Barkley, Chris Brown, and AFI all scored three nominations a piece, and Fall Out Boy, Kanye West, Rihanna and the Pussycat Dolls each scored two.

Gnarls Barkley will face off against the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Panic! At The Disco, the All-American Rejects and Fall Out Boy for Best Group Video. Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" clip could also win Moonmen trophies for Best Direction and Best Editing.

For the first time in the show's history, viewers will be able to vote online for all VMA categories (not just Viewer's Choice, as in years past). To check out all the nominees and vote for your favorites, visit MTV.com.

Winners will be announced during the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards show, airing live August 31 at 8 pm ET / 7 pm CT.
