Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Kanye honored at BET Awards.
LOS ANGELES, CA [Thursday Jun.29.2006] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, and Kanye West and Jamie Foxx each picked up a pair of trophies at the Sixth Annual BET Awards, held Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
Mary J. Blige was named Best Female R&B Artist, and the video for her hit single "Be Without You" tied with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx's "Gold Digger" for Video of the Year. Kanye and Jamie earned another award when "Gold Digger" was declared the Best Duet/Collaboration of the year.
Teen singer Chris Brown shared in the honors, winning two awards for Best New Artist and the fan-voted Viewer's Choice for his song "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)."
Other winners included Prince (Best Male R&B), Missy Elliott (Best Female Hip Hop), T.I. (Best Male Hip Hop), Kirk Franklin (Best Gospel Artist), and Anthony Hamilton (BET J Cool Like That).
Chaka Khan and Harry Belafonte were also honored during the star-studded event. Chaka Khan received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Belafonte was presented with the Humanitarian Award.
Other BET Awards highlights included Beyonce's show opener of her new single "Déjà vu" where she was joined by Jay-Z, Janet Jackson's surprise appearance with her former "Good Times" cast mates to present Missy Elliott with the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award, Eminem's surprise guest spot with Busta Rhymes, Prince's always electric performance, and Jamie Foxx and Fantasia's ultra-passionate kiss during Jamie's performance of "DJ Play a Love Song."
