NEW YORK, NY  [Friday May.12.2006]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- Congratulations to the Gorillaz, who have been named the 2006 Webby Artist of the Year.

The world's most successful virtual band is one of several Webby Special Achievement Award winners. The Gorillaz are being honored for their pioneering work fusing music and animation. Other Special Achievement honorees include Thomas Friedman, Mark Cuban, the founders of MySpace, and Internet co-inventor Dr. Bob Kahn.

The International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences announced the winners of the 10th Annual Webby Awards earlier this week. The awards honor the year's best Web sites and the innovators behind them.

The Webby Awards take place June 12th at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. For the second year in a row, Rob Corddry of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will emcee the evening's festivities.
