Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, James Blunt among nominees.
LONDON, UK [Thursday Apr.27.2006] /Mix103FM.com/ -- Coldplay lead the nominations for this year's Ivor Novello Awards, honoring songwriting and music excellence among UK artists.
Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" (from the band's latest album "X&Y") received nominations for International Hit of the Year and Most Performed Work, while "Fix You" earned a nod for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
Other contenders for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically award include the Arctic Monkeys for "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" and KT Tunstall for "Suddenly I See."
Singer-songwriter James Blunt received two Ivor Novello nominations for his breakthrough single "You're Beautiful," earning nods for International Hit of the Year and Most Performed Work.
The Gorillaz are in the running for Best Contemporary Song for "DARE" off the band's latest album "Demon Days." They face competition from the Kaiser Chiefs and Athlete.
Presented by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters, the annual awards ceremony takes place on May 25th at London's Grosvenor House.
