SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA  [Friday Apr.14.2006]  /Mix103FM.com/ -- James Blunt, Chris Brown and Green Day were among the winners at MTV's 2006 Australia Video Music Awards (AVMAs), held earlier this week.

The trophies were handed out in Sydney, where British singer-songwriter James Blunt took home the Song of the Year Award for his breakthrough single, "You're Beautiful." Blunt edged out fellow nominees Kanye West, Ben Lee, Bernard Fanning, and Madonna to win the award.

Newcomer Chris Brown bested Mariah Carey, the Pussycat Dolls, Jade McRae, and Mario to win Best R'N'B Video for the hit song "Run It!" And the Best Group Prize went to Green Day, who beat out U2, the Foo Fighters, the Gorillaz and Wolfmother.

Australian artists made a strong showing at this year's AVMAs. Bernard Fanning, singer of the Australian rock group Powderfinger, won Album of the Year for his solo debut "Tea and Sympathy." Australian pop-rock group The Veronicas were named "Spankin' New Aussie Artist," and the Veronicas also won Video of the Year for their "4ever" clip.

Other AVMA winners include Snoop Dogg, Ashlee Simpson, and The Darkness.
