HHS Soccer Defeats Salina Central
The Hays High boys soccer team starts their season 2-0 following a 4-1 win over Salina Central in their home opener at the Hays High Field. The Indians scored three goals in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie. Senior Devin Schmidt scored two of those goals along with Lane Clark. Freshman Jordan Windholz scored in the first half. The Indians are back in action at noon on Monday against Augusta at the McPherson Invitational.

HHS Football Set To Begin 2nd Year Under Cornelsen
Hays High opens the 2010 football season tonight at Lewis Field, hosting Chapman. The Indians are looking for their fourth-straight win in a season opener. Last year they won their first seven games on their way to a 7-2 season. Second year coach Ryan Cornelsen says last year’s success doesn’t add any pressure to this year’s team. Chapman is coming off a 1-8 season and is coached by former Kansas State quarterback Jeff Schwinn. We’ll have coverage of the Indians and Irish beginning with the Fort Hays Auto Sales pre-game show at 6:30pm on 96.9 KFIX. TMP-Marian opens the season on the road with Ellinwood. The Fort Hays Auto Sales pre-game show is at 6:30pm on SportsRadio 1400 KAYS.

Chiefs Finally Get Preseason Win
Matt Cassel and Brodie Croyle each led touchdown drives as the Kansas City Chiefs beat Green Bay 17-13 last night for their first preseason victory since 2008. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a host of other Green Bay starters didn't suit up for the final tuneup of the preseason. Backup signal-caller Matt Flynn played into the third quarter and hit 23 of 37 passes for 304 yards, much of it against backups. Chiefs coach Todd Haley says the win is nice but not the most important thing. The Chiefs open at home a week from Monday against San Diego.

Vikes Top Broncos
The Broncos also go 1-3 in the preseason following a 31-24 loss at Minnesota. Denver turned the ball over four times in the first half and trailed 17-7 at the break despite giving up just 54 yards. Tim Tebow fumbled his first snap which was scooped up for a touchdown. He then threw an interception which set up a field goal. The Broncos fumbled on their next two possessions. The Bronocos open their season in Jacksonville a week from Sunday.

Rockies Blow 4-Run Lead
Chase Utley drove in six runs and hit a grand slam to cap a nine-run seventh inning Thursday night as the Philadelphia Phillies overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Colorado Rockies 12-11. The Royals and Cardinals were both off yesterday. Kansas City opens a weekend series with Detroit while the Cardinals try to close the gap a little in the NL Central as they host Cincinnati.
